Along with the recent release of the Sony Reader Touch Edition, the Sony Reader Pocket Edition is one of Sony’s brand new electronic book readers.  Competing vigourously with Amazon’s Kindle line, Sony is striving to provide a different type of ebook reader for those that are not satisfied with Kindle.

The Reader Pocket Edition is meant for the frequent traveler that wishes to have numerous ebooks available at their fingertips without the worrying of size, weight, or even battery life.

The Reader Pocket Edition has many of the same features as the other models, such as text size adjustment, e-ink display, multiple format compatibility, and includes a stylus for easy highlighting and annotating.  However, the size of this ebook reader makes it one of Sony’s smalliest.  Meant to be easily stored in a purse or pocket the Reader Pocket Edition is just 6 1/4 inches long, 4 1/4 inches wide, and narrower than a standard magazine.  The weight is just over 7 3/4 ounces.  Now that is small.

However, one of the largest and most beneficial differences between the Sony and Kindle digital readers is the battery life.  While Amazon likes to advertise that the Kindle battery life can last up to two weeks, sony prs300, prs-300, prs 300, pocket reader editionthis can only be achieved if the wireless technology is turned off, otherwise the battery life is just 4 days.  But isn’t the wireless internet the number one reason why Kindle thinks it is the best ebook reader?   Why does the owner have to compromise?  With the Sony Reader Pocket and Touch Edition you can have 350 ebooks at your fingertips and truely have a battery life of two weeks.  For the avid traveler this is a winning situation. You don’t need to worry about charging your battery if you are going to be on the moveall the time and you don’t need to worry about making sure a feature of your ebook reader is turned off to ensure a longer battery life.

Another amazing feature of the Sony Reader Pocket Edition is the price.  Where as Kindle’s is priced at a ridiculous $489 the Reader Pocket Edition is just $200.  Making the Reader Pocket Edition an economical choice.
