Amazon Kindle Review
The Kindle, Amazon’s first electronic book reader was released at the end of 2007 and was widely received although there was much skeptism about the product. However, it offers many features that are just too good to pass up.
The best feature of all on the Kindle is not just that it can hold at least 200 ebooks but how easy it is to get those ebooks onto the Kindle. The Kindle features a wireless internet connection that connects over the same data networks that cell phones do. That means that you don’t have to be in an area that has Wi-fi but can connect anywhere you get cell reception. The wireless internet connection allows the user to connect to ebook stores online, search, buy, and receive the book they want in just minutes! Imagine how simple that is, not to mention time efficient! The connection also allows the user to email documents from any computer straight to the Kindle.
The Kindle is not limited to just regular books but can receive top newspapers (even those in other countries), magazines, and blogs. It is lighter and thinner than books, newspapers, and magazines allowing the user to carry it and use it easily throughout their day. Whether they be at the coffee shop, on the bus, train, or plane, or simply in their most comfortable spot at home.
The Kindle like many other ebook readers has easy to read text with the use of electronic ink. Many who read the el
ectronic ink for the first time are taken back by its likeness to paper ink but the benefit of this ink is not the feeling of reading a paper book but how easy it is on the eyes. Your eyes won’t hurt after reading a book on the ebook reader like it might after reading a book on the computer. Another text feature is the ability to enlarge the text which can be of great use for older adults with poor eyesight. I know my grandmother would have loved the Kindle just for that reason. With it being nearly impossible to find large print books or attempting to find a comfortable possition while using a magnifying class the Kindle could make reading enjoyable for these indviduals yet again.
Other great features include the ability to add bookmarks and annotations just like a paper book, page flipping to make the experience seem real, and a built in dictionary.
So with such great features you might be wondering why there was skeptism and why everyone doesn’t already own a Kindle. There are a few thoughts that prevent people from making the final decision to purchase a Kindle. These include the price, worry that they will have to buy interent service for the wireless internet connection, the practicality, and whether the device can handle everyday "oops", like drops and spills. So lets look at these possible negatives. The price is high, however, the price is worth what you are getting. Just look again at all the features above and the price doesn’t look so large anymore. Since the wireless interent is done over a high speed data network there is no wireless set-up or service needed. Also, not needed are any computers. There is no syncing needed or cables needed to
download content. The practicalitiy of the product is the ability to carry numerous books, newspapers, and magazines at your fingertips in a device that is small, slim, and easy to use and carry. Students can use the Kindle for school or you can use it for work to download many documents and easily transport them. Many reading enthuasists like the ability to carry just one small device on the plane, train, or on business trips and have a handful of books to choose to read from. Lastly, much like cell phones, IPods, laptops, the Kindle has been designed to survive drops and small spills.
After reading this review I am sure you are beginning to realize that the Kindle is worth the price and is very beneficial to avid readers, students, and the average joe. So buy yours now and start taking advantage of it and enjoy!
